University of Alabama at Birmingham Secures $3m to Investigate Vaccine Hesitancy

Why do people experience vaccine hesitancy? Given the dramatic slowdown in members of the population currently signing up for inoculation, the federal government’s seeking ways to better understand what’s actually going on.  Consequently, the National Institute of Minority Health Disparities (NIMHD) has given out five grant awards to address this topic, as well as actual vaccination uptake and implementation among the populations that experience health disparities, such as racial and ethnic minorities and other traditionally underserved or underrepresented categories. One of those awards totaling $3 million has been granted to a University of Alabama at Birmingham assistant professor in the School of Public Health, Henna Budhwani, PhD, MPH, as well as to her co-principal investigator Lisa B. Hightow-Weidman, MD, MPH, a professor at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, funding a study titled “A Multidimensional Digital Approach to Address Vaccine Hesitancy and Increase COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake among African American Young Adults in the South.”
