A physician and medical director of a Texas nursing home is under scrutiny as the call was made to administer hydroxychloroquine to many elderly COVID-19 patients after an outbreak nearly two weeks ago. Known as the Resort at Texas City, the physician, Robin Armstrong, made the call based on medical judgement and the conditions and constraints faced. This was the drug that President Donald Trump touted on national television as a “game changer.” However, the drug is not approved and is currently undergoing multiple clinical trials around the world. Did this nursing home initiate an observational study on unsuspecting sick and elderly residents? Or did Dr. Armstrong simply make the best call given tough circumstances?
