Study Reveals Significant Growth in Number of Spinal Surgeries in China

As reported in Dovepress, given the aging Chinese population and the inevitable degenerative process of the spine, more elderly patients with spinal degenerative disease (SDD) have become surgical candidates. Placing an ever-greater burden on the Chinese health system, researchers sought to understand the magnitude. The researchers were from the following:

  • Peking University Third Hospital
  • Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences
  • Peking Union Medical College

The researchers concluded that due to the need to address SDD in China, a significant increase in surgical workload was in fact occurring.
