South Carolina’s Coast Pediatric Research Participates in Modern’s Adolescent and Younger COVID-19 Vaccine Trial

Charleston, South Carolina-based Coastal Pediatric Research was recently selected by Moderna to participate in their pediatric COVID-19 vaccine trials, the only such site in the state to be involved with the recently closed-to-enrollment trial for 12 to 17 year old participants. While the site is now accepting possible candidates from age 6 month to 11 years of age as well as the sponsor will open up to include that age group. Overall this region, known as Lowcountry, shows positive participation rates for all age groups.

The Study

The “Teen COVE” study (NCT04649151) investigates the Moderna mRNA-1273 vaccine currently under emergency use authorization (EUA) for adults. This particular Phase 2/3 study involves 3,000 participants initially age 12 to 18 but now younger and is designed to evaluate the safety and reactogenicity of a ingle dose level of mRNA-1273 vaccine administered in two doses across 28 days apart in this younger population.
