Second Utah Youngster Dies Directly From COVID-19

A Salt Lake City teenage girl lost a battle with COVID-19, a rare but terribly concerning example of SARS-CoV-2 taking a young person’s life. This individual had no comorbidities. Such a loss serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with this virus and the second time a young person under 18 died directly due to the coronavirus in Utah. Salt Lake City Health Department spokesperson Nicholas Rupp confirmed the death of the county resident. However, the name of the person wasn’t identified. Cases of Delta-variant COVID-19 have raged in the state with the youngest population in America. With Labor Day Weekend and the unofficial end of summer upon us, the battle against COVID-19 continues here, with government officials and politicians pleading with the remaining half of the population to get vaccinated.

The young person was one of 12 people that died this last Thursday, along with 1,687 reported new cases, including 413 cases involving school-aged children; 162 cases involving 5 to 10-year-olds; 119 in 11 to 13-year-olds; and 132 cases in 14 to 18-year-olds as reported by the Salt Lake City Tribune.
