POTUS Makes Moves to Drive Vaccinations Across Federal Employee & Contractor Base

POTUS issued far-reaching executive moves on Thursday, essentially mandating that all civilian federal employees and contractors must get vaccinated against COVID-19 or subject themselves to regular testing, social distancing, and stringent mask and travel rules. But Biden fell short of a mandate as individuals that do not abide by the edict won’t be terminated, reports the White House. POTUS’ strategy to get 70% of Americans at least one jab by the 4th of July failed. And with vaccination rates slowing to a crawl, POTUS is trying to think creatively to get the process moving again. Of course, one pending crisis is the emerging reinfection rates. It appears that with the Delta variant, the vaccinated can serve as carriers, which mitigates the push for herd immunity. Instead, the government increasingly talks about the therapeutic protections the vaccines offer. That is, there is less probability of serious disease and hospitalization with infection. This puts the White House in a bind because the original assumptions underlying the mass vaccination initiative could change, meaning the entire strategy would need review.
