Penn State Secures $25m NCATS Renewal with Focus on Data, Health Equity & tResearch-as-a-care Option

Penn State just received $25 million to enhance the institution’s medical research and human health programs. With direct support for the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s efforts to promote collaboration while supporting health research efficiency, access to clinical trials becomes a centerpiece of this grant award. The clinical research-as-a-care option movement accelerates as this latest grant to Penn State goes to ensuring the community has more access to clinical trials. A renewal of a grant to Penn State’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) awarded the funds to continue the effort to support clinical and translational research infrastructure at the Pennsylvania-based academic research center. Penn State represents one of the few CTSA programs that is rural in focus—important as traditionally advanced medical research is harder to access in rural, often economically challenged communities. For Penn State, the study is led by Dr. Jennifer Kraschnewski as co-principal investigator.
