Patient Gives $8.5m to Support Breast Cancer Research at University of Arizona Cancer Center

A breast cancer survivor has donated $8.5 million to the University of Arizona Cancer Center to support breast cancer research efforts. Ginny L. Clements was first diagnosed with breast cancer at age 15 and was clear recently during an interview with the University of Arizona Foundation that with the gift she hopes research University of Arizona will lead us to a day when other people can avoid this disease. University of Arizona Cancer Center director Dr. Joann Sweasy reports that the funds will go toward recruiting a clinician scientist/director in the breast cancer field in addition to supporting startup packages, renovation of library space and research.

The Institute

The new Ginny L. Clements Breast Cancer Research Institute will contribute to the existing university breast cancer research. Now University of Arizona Cancer Center will establish an external advisory board consisting of breast cancer researchers from across America. Breast cancer research at the University of Arizona is led by Dr. Pavani Chalsani.
