UVA receives $3M NIH grant to optimize online weight programs for rural residents

Public health researchers at the University of Virginia School of Medicine,  along with the University of South Carolina,  have received a $3.37 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to improve online behavioral weight-management programs for rural residents.
More than 130 million Americans are overweight or obese, and people living in rural areas experience significantly higher rates of both obesity and chronic illnesses associated with obesity. Many rural areas also lack access to healthcare resources.
