Could positron emission tomography (PET) scans predict Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia in at-risk individuals? That’s a possibility based on the finding that a biomarker of norepinephrine deficiency in the heart just may serve to detect Lewy body diseases prior to any symptomatic presentation. These findings come courtesy of National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) investigator David S. Goldstein, M.D., Ph.D.
