The University of Wolverhampton based in Black Country, which is the area of England’s Midlands, plans a new medical school that will conduct clinical trials, serving as a trial site for both academic and industry-sponsored clinical trials. Mainly an urbanized area covering the Boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall, with the City of Wolverhampton often included, the university actively seeks authorization for a research facility to conduct clinical trials offering the clinical research as a care option to thousands of Black Country hospital patients, affording access to the most advanced therapies, which can be lifesaving especially with recent breakthroughs in the fields of cancer, for example.

The region’s name derives from its heavy industrial history. During the mid-19th century Black Country was known for a lot of smoke from the many thousands of ironworking foundries in the area, plus 30-foot shallow coal seams.
