In a recent conversation with Applied Clinical Trials, Jane Myles, Program Director at the Decentralized Trials & Research Alliance (DTRA), unveiled a series of what were described as groundbreaking initiatives aimed at enhancing the adoption of decentralized clinical trial (DCT) methods. These efforts are set to transform how clinical trial sites engage with DCT elements, fostering better communication, collaboration, and operational efficiency.
One of the key challenges highlighted by Myles is the late-stage awareness of DCT methods among clinical sites. "A lot of [sites] reported that they actually didn't find out that DCT methods were being used until the investigator meeting or the site initiation meeting," she noted. This disconnect often stems from DCT elements not being clearly codified in study protocols, leaving sites unprepared for the operational demands these methods entail.
