Yet another religious exemption-based lawsuit emerged involving the COVID-19 vaccine mandates during the pandemic. This time over to the State of Iowa where a medical-supply worker filed an action against his former employer for refusing to adjust their COVID-19 vaccine policy to his religious beliefs. Brandon S. Hoefer was forced to get the jab, and when he refused, his employer NuCara terminated the Butler County resident. The Iowa resident declared the COVID-19 vaccine was “sinful” and additionally, that “God will heal me in times of illness.” TrialSite reviews this case briefly and summarizes the time for vaccine mandates and ensuing challenges during COVID-19.

The plaintiff first filed the action in state court, but thereafter brought the claim to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, arguing that as a salesperson he consequently had “minimal interaction” with nursing home residents. However, he did meet regularly with long term care facility employees, reports Clark Kaufmann, Deputy Editor for the Iowa Dispatch.
