Abortion Drug Mifepristone Heads to Supreme Court: Fall Out from the Overturning of Roe v. Wade

Back in April, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists offered a good&nbsp;overview&nbsp;of the abortion and miscarriage-care drug Mifepristone and its uses from Dr. Kristyn Brandi. At the time they noted that a Texas legal case &ldquo;may someday&rdquo; impact access to this pharmaceutical. Dr. Brandi notes that in her practice she has used the drug for &ldquo;countless&rdquo; patients and found firsthand that it is a safe and effective medicine. Mifepristone prevents a &ldquo;pregnancy,&rdquo; somewhat of a euphemism for an embryo or fetus, from developing and growing. Also, it assists a woman's body to get ready to vacate the uterus, by &ldquo;softening the cervix and helping the lining of the uterus break down.&rdquo; Part of a two-drug process, this drug is generally followed by misoprostol, which leads to bleeding and cramping that fully empties a woman&rsquo;s uterus. This later drug can also be used by itself.
