Medical treatment for transgender people along with its societal and political ramifications has become a hot button issue in the United States. For example across America thus far in 2023, there have already been over 400 proposed anti-trans bills. Most of the proposed bills are written to restrict transgender people's access to health services. In 2022, 174 anti-trans bills were proposed, of which 26 have passed. By March 2023, a total of 471 bills were introduced in 44 states, and 15 of have passed. The bills include punishing healthcare workers and families for providing gender affirming care to transgender youth. Last year, the Florida Medical Board moved forward with banning gender affirming treatment and restricting transition related care and therapy for persons under 18. Now, in Tennessee, parents of transgender kids feel “betrayed” by a hospital.
