MCO Invests $100 Million into Washington University St. Louis Research

Market leading Managed Care Organization (MCO) Centene will award $100 million to Washington University St. Louis. The award will be allocated to the university’s School of Medicine for research into Alzheimer’s disease, breast cancer, diabetes and obesity. Centene is a market leader in providing managed care services to large government payers. They seek the funding to accelerate affordable, customized disease treatment and prevention for patients. Centene reports the innovations will be commercialized through the ARCH Personalized Medicine initiative, a joint venture with the St. Louis-based medical school.

This represents a very interesting deal. Centene, an MCO with a focus on Medicaid payers, they are seeking to make an innovative and interesting bet in the clinical research space.
