How to Ethically Commercialize Psychedelics? Challenges To Be Spotlighted at Horizons 2021 Conference in NYC

Billed as the “the largest and longest-running annual gathering of the psychedelic community in the world,” Horizons: Perspectives on Psychedelics, returns to Cooper Union in Manhattan  December 1-5. Parts of the program will be held at NY Academy of Medicine, underlining the field’s growing acceptance. For 2021, the Business Forum was co-developed by North Star PBC, a values-focused spinoff of Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). MAPS and its newly formed development arm, MAPS PBC, are hoping for a 2023 FDA approval of MDMA as treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The MAPS approach to “medicalization” has inspired a wave of startups and a nascent industry of psychedelic wellness clinics. A few of the startups have achieved successful IPOs (Compass, Atai).
