Health Canada just became the first major regulator to authorize four COVID-19 vaccines as they have cleared the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for COVID-19. The regulator has already authorized Moderna, Pfizer/BioNTech and AstraZeneca. As the country hasn’t any domestically produced vaccine they have been dependent on exports and hence has looked elsewhere including Asia which ended up in the CanSino Biologics debacle covered frequently by TrialSite. Now with four authorized vaccines, however Health Canada is gearing up to ensure that the majority of the country’s 37.6 million people are inoculated.
Johnson & Johnson has an agreement with the nation to provide 10 million doses between the present and September although it’s not clear exactly when Canada will receive its first Johnson & Johnson vaccine shipment. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reports that Pfizer will ship another 1 million doses in both April and May which is ahead of schedule.
