A recent study out of China reveals that the viral shedding of the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 is 1000 times higher than the original Wuhan variant. The Delta variant also progresses faster to PCR positive after exposure. This supports what many clinicians have observed: disease progression is much faster with Delta, and the pulmonary stage can occur days earlier. That means the window for early treatment is narrower. Patients who have physicians providing early care treatment regimens (off-label ivermectin, fluvoxamine, etc.) need supportive therapeutics on hand to take immediately upon symptom onset. Each day there is a delay adds to the critical risk of disease progression. 

The Study

Published recently in medRxiv, the study isn’t yet peer-reviewed, so it cannot serve as robust evidence as of yet. Nonetheless, the findings are telling. Driven out of China with participation from researchers at the University of Oxford, the study pinpointed the first Delta variant cases identified in mainland China.
