On Monday, August 23, 2021, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the Director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, clarified and restated his prediction that "If we can get through this winter and get really the majority—overwhelming majority of the 90 million people who have not been vaccinated, vaccinated, I hope we can start to get some good control in the spring of 2022." Dr. Fauci corrects prediction on when US may have control over Covid-19 (cnn.com). Dr. Fauci added that COVID-19 infections this winter, the third winter of the pandemic, could be further complicated by other respiratory viral infections such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus, a type of common cold virus.
