Many news articles published on August 21, 2021, including these four,1-4 furnished alarming reports about calls to a poison control center in Mississippi from people who took ivermectin in unspecified animal formulations. But no hospitalizations actually resulted.5 One of these articles listed several serious side effects associated with ivermectin use, but muddied the distinction between this drug in human or veterinary formulations,1 some of the latter of which are not for internal use.
