Boost or Bust: Turkey Encourages Fifth Booster Shot to Those Who Received 2 Sinovac and 2 BioNTech

Turkey recently announced that a fifth booster shot is in the works for those who have already received two doses of the Chinese Sinovac and two doses of the BioNTech vaccine at least three months ago. Those who qualify and wish to receive the vaccine will be administered the Sinovac by BioNTech vaccine which is also known as Turkovac in Turkey.  This is yet another indication of waning vaccine effectiveness with five doses in a period of around 12 to 15 months since the onset of vaccination. 

Turkey developed its own inactivated COVID-19 vaccine called Turkovac, which was authorized by government regulators on an emergency basis just last month. The indigenous product was developed by the Health Institutes of Turkey. Other approved vaccines in this nation include Pfizer-BioNTech, Sputnik V (Gamaleya), and Sinovac’s CoronaVac.
