Australian Medical Researchers Uncover Problems with Prestigious Medical Journal Coverage of COVID-19 Clinical Trials

Have the great, influential medical journals worked to rush product out due to the COVID-19 pandemic? According to an Australian-based study led by Professor Michael Reade with University of Queensland, journals have approved a flurry of medical articles associated with the race to find a COVID-19 cure. Have standards been compromised?

A recent report published in the Medical Journal of Australia reveals that one in five COVID-19 studies published in prominent journals over the last five months of the pandemic include corrections post publication indicating a growing number of mistakes not caught in the editorial process. With a total of 7.4 percent the year prior (one in every 13 studies), the Australians are clearly on to something here as the rate of mistakes, errors and hence updated publication nearly tripled since the onset of COVID-19.
