Breakthrough infections, where the fully vaccinated are infected with SARS-CoV-2, become ever more common as TrialSite has chronicled in Israel, the United Kingdom, and increasingly in America. But to date, the data indicates that the vaccinated have far lower probabilities of succumbing to severe infection, including hospitalization or death. That perception changed with data from Herzog Hospital, which revealed growing numbers of hospitalization among high-risk vaccinated groups. Now a fully vaccinated person has died from SARS-CoV-2, indicating the risks must be understood for people fully vaccinated as well. Most recently, Heather Greeley, a 35-year-old Portland, Oregon, died. Her fiancé confirmed both had been fully vaccinated for months.
The thought of them “getting sick from COVID-19 seem far-fetched,” reported Tyler Birkes, the surviving fiancé.
